What does Harlem means?

The name Harlem originates from the Dutch city Haarlem. The Dutch bought Manhattan Island from the Native Americans in 1626 and named the northern part of the island "Nieuw Haarlem", after the city of Haarlem in the Netherlands. The name Harlem was first used in English in 1664, when the English took control of New Amsterdam from the Dutch.

The name Harlem has remained in use ever since, and it is now one of the most famous neighborhoods in New York City. Harlem is known for its rich history and culture, as well as its vibrant music and arts scene.
