PBS Kids is a non-commercial resource developed by the Public Broadcasting Service. It contains such material as video recordings of its TV programs and games. PBS Kids games are designed to encourage learning and do not contain violent or other inappropriate scenes. PBS Kids games can teach smart kids the alphabet, reading, spelling, storytelling and numerical skills, as well as provide information about wildlife, dinosaurs, music and art.
Yahoo! Kids is a resources designed by Yahoo!, an internet portal. The resource contains games, music, movies and jokes designed specifically for children. In addition, there are also children's ecards and a kids' horoscope. In the Study Zone, smart kids will be able to access educational materials, such as a World Factbook for kids, structured similarly to the World Factbook that the CIA maintains for adults.
FREE, or Federal Resources for Educational Excellence, is a resource sponsored by the federal government of the United States to make it easier to find teaching and learning resources from the U.S. government. Contributing federal agencies include Federal Bureau of Investigation, Central Intelligence Agency, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, House of Representatives, Library of Congress, National Gallery of Art, National Academy of Sciences, the White House and the Cabinet departments, among others. FREE gets support from the Development Services Team in the Office of the Chief Information Officer of the U.S. Department of Education. FREE has information on arts and music, health and physical education, history and social studies, languages, math and science.
Energy.gov is another resource smart kids can use. It provides information on all aspects of energy, particularly focusing on what the child and his parents can do to save energy, such as turning off the lights when when leaving a room, powering off appliances when not using them and keeping the windows and doors closed when the air conditioner is running. In addition, the resource provides such fun yet useful activities as a Home Energy Audit and a Home Energy Checkup.
