The point of this game is to find all the ships that are hidden. The teacher makes a grid and writes A,B,C, D, E and F across the top. The numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 are written vertically down the side of the page. The teacher will then decide where she will hide two battleships. The student has to find out where the ships are. Then she will ask the student a question and if he answers correctly, he can guess where a ship is. His guess will be something like A5 or D2. The teacher will say "hit" if he found a ship or "miss" if he did not. Each student is given a chance to answer a question and guess where a ship may be hidden. The students will keep a tab on which spots were guessed already so that they can plan where to try next. The game ends when a student has found both ships.
Two students stand next to one another and the teacher asks the students a review question, such as, "Who was the first president of the United States?" The first student to bang her hand on the desk answers the question. If she answers correctly, she continues to play against the next student. If she answers incorrectly, the other student gets to compete and she has to sit down.
This game works best when the students are split into two groups. The teacher makes two parallel horizontal lines on the board, intersected by two parallel vertical lines. Each team is assigned either an X or an O. The teacher will then call on a student from one team to answer a review question; if he gets it correct, the team decides where the X or O will be placed on the board. If the answer is incorrect, then the other team is given a chance to answer the question. The point of the game is to get three of the same letter in a row horizontally, vertically or diagonally.
This game is great for students who need to get up and move about sometimes. A student is chosen to be the actor and act out a phrase, person or place that is on the review for the test. The other students will then have to guess what the student is trying to act out. The student who gets the answer correct gets to be the actor next.
