How to Practice School Rules With the Primary Grades

The primary school years are a formative time for socializing children. The simplest and most effective means of doing that is through school rules. In grade school, the goal of school rules is to keep children safe and create an encouraging and nurturing environment for all of your students both in the classroom and during other daily activities.

Instructions

    • 1

Practice playground safety rules before you take your students to the playground. Post a map of the playground and have the students take turns sticking a picture of their favorite activity in the correct area. Have them place big "X" signs on the areas in which they are not allowed to play, such as bushes, near street curbs or in the trees.

    • 2

Give your students a snack to teach them about cafeteria rules. Have your students line up and each take his snack from a table. Require that they remain quiet - just as they would in the lunch line - and return to their assigned seat with their snack. After they have finished eating, teach them how to clean up their lunch place and throw away their trash.

    • 3

Teach your students about inside and outside voice. Offer scenerios in various places around the school such as the hallway, cafeteria, playground and office, and ask them which voice to use. Have them speak in the correct volume when answering or acting out the scene.

    • 4

Practice fire safety with a mock fire drill in your classroom. First instruct the students on what they must do if the fire alarm ever goes off. Next, ring a bell and have them practice as if it were a fire alarm. Repeat this drill until the students respond correctly.
