When making a tin can totem pole, gather a few coffee cans, some construction paper, scissors, glue and masking tape. Stack empty coffee cans on top of one another, making sure that each can represents a member of the family and include the family pet if there is one. Attach cans to one another with masking tape. Once stacked and secure, decorate cans with paint or construction paper, drawing faces or depicting important family events on each can.
For this project, gather three or more wooden spools, wood glue, markers, construction paper and scissors. Glue the wooden spools on top of one another. Once dry, decorate each spool using construction paper and markers with events which represent the family or with faces of animals or family members. Finish the totem pole by cutting wings out of construction paper and adorning the top of the totem for a finished project.
Craft a totem pole using a cardboard tube from a paper towel roll or toilet paper rolls. Totem pole creatures are available online as printable cutouts and can be attached onto the totem poles. Another option is dividing the tube into sections and then decorating each separate section with animal or human faces representing family members or life events.
You can easily find the materials needed for this projects at home. Gather paper plates, glue, sticks and leaves from outside, markers, tape and a large stick. Each family member should be represented by a plate. Decorate plates by gluing natural materials such as ivy, leaves and twigs for creating hair and also use markers for drawing faces. When finished, tape plates onto the large stick then place the stick in the ground.
