Decimals and percents are two different mathematical forms of the same concept --- a part of a whole. Percents work by declaring a whole value as 100 percent, with lower percentage amounts representing a portion of that number. For example, .25 is 25 percent of 100. By working with the relationships that decimals and percentages have to a whole and to the number 100, you can rewrite decimals as percents.

1
Write down a decimal number for example purposes. For this example, let the number be 0.0556.
-
2
Multiply the number by 100 to shift the decimal point two places to the right; 0.0556 multiplied by 100 becomes 5.56.

3
Attach a percentage sign "%" to the end of the number to complete the transformation; 5.56 becomes 5.56%.
