Bulletin Board Projects for Second Grade

Create bulletin boards that highlight the joys of second grade. Feature children's art projects or choose themes that tie into your second grade lesson plans. Flower and plant bulletin boards work for spring or "plant week." Encourage the kids to help create the boards or ask them to come up with ideas.
  1. Spring

    • Design a spring-themed bulletin board displaying a large paper sunshine with an oak tree and flowers close by. Cut up strips of green paper with pointed tips and glue these along the border at the bottom of your bulletin board. Encourage the kids to plant flowers in hand-painted pots and place them on the class window sill. Take pictures of these flowers so you can display them on the board.

    School Pictures

    • Showcase the students' second grade portraits on a bulletin board. Create a colorful background that highlights some scenes that would appeal to this age group such as rainbows, poppies or bright solid colors. Place each child's picture inside a paper balloon, cupcake or other design. You can also place the kids' pictures on the board in alphabetical order and label each child's name underneath.

    Fall Harvest

    • Take pictures of your second grade students at the fall school carnival or harvest and showcase these photos on the bulletin board. Place the pictures in random spots and decorate the board with paper hay bales, pumpkins, turkeys, leaves and other fall decor. You might want to also feature some of the children's fall artwork.

    Favorite Foods

    • Create a bulletin board featuring all the children's favorite foods. Hang up a large sheet of white poster board paper, so the foods stand out. Ask each child to cut out a picture of his favorite food from a magazine or make it out of paper. Glue these pictures on the board in random places and create a title that says "Class Favorites" or something along those lines. You might want to also place a food guide pyramid in the middle of the board and place the kids' pictures around it. This can give kids an idea if their favorite foods fit within the realm of what's considered healthy.
