Third Grade Science Project Crafts Made out of Recycled Material

Third grade students have a chance to show off their scientific minds and skills at annual school science fairs. Kids must be able to show how the scientific process was used, the results from their experiments or research, and put it all together in a single display. Recycled materials can be used to show creativity and environmental awareness when making a science fair project display and can turn out to be part of the project’s topic.
  1. Space

    • Kids can study the planets, the stars and how astronauts launch into space for their third grade science project by making models of the solar system and rockets. Previously used materials such as tennis balls, round sponges or old toys can be used to represent the different planets and sun. Milk cartons, ice cream boxes, soup cans and cereal boxes can be used to make moon rovers and rocket ships.

    Nature

    • Students can learn and show how plants grow by planting an herb garden or grass. Once planted, students can monitor the growth process of the different plants and grasses. Recycled egg cartons, soup cans and water bottles can be used to plant different herbs and grasses. A large water bottle can be filled with dirt and worms or ants to show how these animals work underground.

    Weather

    • Weather science projects can monitor and study the effects of wind, rain and storms. Craft projects that can be made for a weather science project include windmills, a sundial and a rain gauge. Recycled materials used can include water bottles, Popsicle sticks, cereal boxes and soup cans.

    Pollution

    • A pollution science project can include ways to use recycled materials to prevent pollution or discusses the harm pollution causes to the environment. Projects can include a bottle filled with lake water and pollutants or a soda bottle filled with blue-dyed water and olive oil. Another craft project can include using an old lobster trap filled with items that can harm sea life, such as soda cans, bottles, straws and fishing nets.
