Add a piece of construction paper or a regular piece of paper to a pie tin. Squirt colorful tempera paint onto the paper. Add marbles to the pie tin. Have the child roll the marbles around by changing the angle of the pie tin.
Fold a piece of construction paper in half. On one side of the page, paint a picture using tempera paint. Make sure there is a lot of paint on that side. Fold it in half. Press the two sides together. Unfold the piece of paper. Now, you have the same image on both sides of the paper.
Use a white crayon or a wax candle to draw a picture on a regular piece of paper. Paint over it with vibrant water colors. After the paint dries, you can see the original drawing under the water colors. You can repeat this for other colored crayons.
Draw a picture with sidewalk chalk on a piece of paper. The child should use pastel colors. Using liquid starch, brush over the picture. This should produce the same effect as a watercolor painting.
