What Are Graphic Organizers?

Graphic organizers such as Venn diagrams, storyboards, spider maps and other visual aides can assist your home-schooler in understanding concepts in a variety of subject areas. These representations help to simplify learning and make it more interactive.
  1. Venn Diagrams

    • Venn diagrams feature overlapping circles that classify information that is alike and different. Information that the two circles share in common is represented in the overlapping areas of the circles.

    Spider Maps

    • Spider maps feature a central idea visualized in a circle with legs or branches detailing the specifics of the subject matter at hand.

    Storyboards

    • Storyboards feature a sequence of pictures that are placed in order so they tell an important story.

    Series of Events Chains

    • Series of events chains are boxes connected by arrows that detail the sequence of events leading to a particular end or goal.

    Continuum Scale

    • Continuum scales feature extremes at either end of a line. Conservative might be on one end while liberal is on the other. Students can identify where they and others fit along the continuum with dots.
