One Biblical reason many home schooling families stand by is that God has given them the authority and responsibility over the children he has blessed them with. They reason that the parents are given the responsibility to raise and teach their children in the Bible. This principle states that the parents are the primary authority over their children and that God holds parents responsible for this responsibility. Deuteronomy 6:6-9 speaks of giving parents this responsibility. Psalm 78:1-11 talks about teaching your children about God so that they in turn will teach their children as well.
Home schooling parents feel that another Biblical reason for choosing this path is to avoid bad influences on their children. Proverbs 13:20 says: "He who walks with wise men will be wise, but a companion of fools will suffer harm." According to this verse, children (and adults) should associate only with wise people if they want to be wise. Spending time around fools will cause harm to them. When this verse refers to fools, it is speaking of people who are not Bible believers and Christ followers.
Proverbs 22:6 says: "Train up a child in the way he should go, even when he is old, he will not depart from it." Public schools do not offer religious training. Because of this, parents who home school look at this verse in Proverbs and believe that children, in all they do, should constantly be trained and reminded of God's love, commandments and will for their lives. By educating their children at home, parents are able to incorporate the Bible and God into every aspect of learning. Psalm 1:1-2 is another verse used to promote Biblical reasons for home schooling. These verses say: "Meditate on God's law day and night."
James 3:13-18 talks about wisdom from above being pure, gentle and full of good fruits. Families who believe strongly in the Bible believe that the content taught in public schools is not in line with Biblical views. By home schooling their children, parents believe that they can build godly character into their children. This character, the parents feel, is necessary for their children to have in order for them to grow up into godly adults.
