Choose a location for which you would like to create a geographical map. Limit it to a specific state or town so you can see as many features as possible on the land.
Log onto the Internet and find an online map generating website. ZeeMaps, Yahoo! or GoogleMaps are easy-to-use and effective mapping websites. ZeeMaps is powered by Google but is user friendly and you can make changes to your map and personalize it.
Follow the on-screen instructions for creating a map. For example, if you are using ZeeMaps, click on "Create a free map." A map of the world is shown; from this you can make adjustments, annotate and add features to create your own geographical map.
Click the "Settings" tab across the top of the map. Select "Display" and change the default map type to "Terrain." This is the basis of your geographical map. This mode displays the mountains and other geographical features for you to view.
Tick the "Small Zoom Control" box to give you additional control over creating your map. This allows you to zoom in and out of the map more easily. Click "Submit" at the bottom right corner of the box.
Annotate, highlight, add markers or color your geographical map according to your requirements. Save the map as a JPEG or Bitmap image and send it to a friend or family member. Print it in color for your reference.
