Plagiarism is defined as implying that another person's written work is your own. This can apply to both words and ideas that are not attributed to their source. Often students unintentionally plagiarize because they do not know the proper way to cite works in their papers. Copy and paste plagiarism is when students insert whole blocks of text into their papers without the correct citation. However, by knowing the guidelines to avoid plagiarism, and knowing how to correctly cite a source, students can prevent accusations of plagiarism.
Instructions

1
Do not copy information word for word from a website, book, or any other source, without giving the source proper credit.
-
2
Reference the author of the work and put quotation marks around any words -- or entire sections of text -- that are not your own.
-
-
3
Do your own research. Gather information from multiple sources, to avoid directly copying information from just one.
-
4
Summarize the information you uncover in your research, in your own words. Avoid using the exact same words and phrases used by the author of your source.
