Type your letter. Begin with a short opening paragraph of three or four sentences. Identify yourself and explain your relationship with your friend. State how you met and how long you have known each other.
Pick three or more of your friend's traits and write a paragraph for each of them in order of importance. Share information about your friend's skills, reliability, work ethic, maturity, creativity and any other relevant traits. Include a short story or anecdote about your friend that illustrates your point.
Close your letter with a paragraph restating your belief in your friend. Restate your friend's best traits. Summarize your letter in your closing sentence.
Share the letter with your friend and listen to her suggestions. You do not have to write what she says, but she may have helpful ideas. Edit the letter for spelling and grammatical errors.
Type your name at the end, followed by your contact information. Print the letter and sign it by hand in black ink below your typed name.
