While he began writing the story in 1812, it wasn't published until 1813, a year after his death. His son, Johann Rudolf Wyss, finished and edited the work, adding his own details and illustrations.
Although Wyss is considered the original author, his son's contributions are significant, and many editions credit both Wyss and his son.
While "The Swiss Family Robinson" is his most famous work, Wyss also authored a number of other books, including:
* "The Hermitage" (1798)
* "The Wild Man of the Woods" (1803)
* "The Children's Story Book" (1808)
However, none of these achieved the same level of popularity as "The Swiss Family Robinson."
