Look for an image editing software with the latest editing features. Download the latest photo editing software from the Internet or upgrade your current software. Ensure your photo editing software contains features that can help you maintain detail in your photos.
Resize your images once using your editing software. Avoid resizing the images continuously because this may cause the image to lose its sharpness. Use a fresh photo if you want to re-size a similar image to prevent the image from becoming blurred. Select the dimensions to use when resizing your image carefully in order to maintain detail in photos. (see Reference 1, paragraph 5) Check your software for image sharpeners to improve on blur therefore reducing loss of detail.
Find an image format that loses less detail. Select an image format from your digital camera. Make sure that the image format captures enough detail. (see Reference 2) Try to edit selected images with different image formats. Save the images you selected and edited in a different folder. Open the images with your photo editing software while comparing the percentage of detail loss. Choose the images with the least loss of details to use when taking photos.
Change the dots-per-inch (dpi) using your image editor. Ensure you do not alter the number of pixels in your image. Check the resolution according to the selection of your dpi to maintain detail on your photo. Keep your photo resolution within the limit of your photo editor, the quality of the photo and the imaging format.
