Many Spanish language immersion camps will have campers separated by age. The level of immersion and language use that can be handled by a teenager is much higher than what many 8- to 10-year-olds can handle. By keeping the age groups separate, each one gets more attention and focus to make the learning experience even better. Some camps will have times when campers can discuss their difficulties and experiences in their native language, while others are 100 percent immersion.
Spanish language immersion camps vary greatly in sponsorship from one camp to another. Some actually are full blown summer camps that specialize in language learning through a genuine camp experience. At other times a language camp can be held at a private academy or college campus. Often times a college campus will work in conjunction with tutors and private schools to provide a one month full immersion language learning camp.
The total immersion aspect can be accelerated by also limiting music, books and television to the Spanish language. When completely surrounded by Spanish without any media in English, the learning process continues to accelerate as the student's mind works on the foreign words subconsciously. In addition, being completely surrounded by Spanish media also forces students to keep working with the language and further speeds up the learning process.
Program lengths at full immersion Spanish language camps can vary immensely. Some are for an entire summer or month, while others might be much shorter, lasting only a week. There are programs aimed at students of all ages, and this also helps as kids can find themselves in different programs throughout various summers, helping to keep the language fresh and helping them to expand on their Spanish vocabulary and comprehension.
