Tools to Teach Driving Safety

Driving is one of the most necessary skills for anybody, especially in this day and age. It not only enhances range of movement but also improves an individual's dependence on himself. Driving in itself has the potential to cause a deadly accident, especially with people as young as 15 getting driving permits. For this reason, it is necessary to inculcate the culture of safe driving to all drivers. This goal is achievable through a various methods and tools.
  1. Visual Stimulus

    • "Seeing is believing" is the most applicable and effective way to emphasize safe driving. Video footage and photographs enhance the learning process and helps the student visualize the lesson taught. A driving instructor may use video footage of reckless drivers to reinforce a lesson on the gravity of careless driving. Photographs of gory accidents have the same reinforcing effect.

    Direct Learning

    • The student interacts personally with the instructor, both in class and while driving. The instructor is thus in a position to correctly assess the student's weakness in driving skills and advise them accordingly and monitor the responses. The student is able to pose questions directly to the instructor and get a specific answer to her concerns.

    Reading Material

    • Reading material for the student that focuses on each area of driving individually and offers in-depth information. A student manual to study when out of class helps the student memorize the traffic rules and regulations and other must-know details about driving safely. It not only focuses on new drivers but also on mature drivers and helps them develop themselves. Examples reading material are the tips and books available on the AAA website.

    Rigorous Assessment

    • Rigorous assessment is most effective method, as it enables the instructor to identify the student's weaknesses. Assessments include items such as oral interviews, written tests, online tests and applications designed to identify driving flaws. The first two are available in driving schools while the last two are available on websites. An example of an application is AAA roadside review.
