Tools for Welders & Pipe Fitters

Welders and pipe fitters are an integral part of any construction project, and they work with different types of metals and pipes. However, they both need tools to aid them in achieving desirable outcomes in their work. These tools range from handheld manual devices to electronic tools.
  1. Clamping Tools

    • Pipe fitters and welders use clamps to grip hot surfaces when heating and welding metals or pipes together. One type of clamping tool is a welding clamp. This tool features two round clamps made out of heavy metal to ensure the metals or pipes joined are together in place. Another clamping tool is the hydraulic clamp. As its name suggests, this tool uses the principles of pressure to grip metals. You apply pressure on the handles of the hydraulic clamp to transmit pressure to the gripping ends that grip the pipes and metals.

    Marking Tool

    • For a pipe fitter and a welder to come up with accurate measurements, they must use tools to mark specific points of metals and pipes. A foldable marker is the epitome of a tool you can use to mark specific points of a project. A pipe warp is another tool you use while fitting pipes by wrapping it around the pipe to mark both the external and internal areas that are bound for cutting. Other marking tools include a pipefitters square, a plumber's calculator and pipefitter's protractors.

    Welding Tools

    • Different pipes need fitting to create a continuous length, and a torch welder heats up pipe surfaces to weld and join with other pipes. Welders and pipe fitters use welding tools that produce blue flames with a high heating intensity. Other tools that produce heat for welding are oxy welders and arc welders.

    Protective Tools

    • Welding and pipe fitting are associated with several harmful procedures. You must utilize protective tools to prevent injury. Goggles and ear pods protect your eyes and ears, respectively, from sparks and noise produced during the welding process. You also need gloves, gumboots and overalls to protect your hands and other parts of your body.
