What Is Reception of Applicants?

A reception of applicants is a welcome for individuals selected for something from an applicant pool. The phrase may refer to the formal welcome of applicants seeking political asylum in the European Union. It may also refer to an event hosted in honor of admitted applicants to a university or college program or scholarship award.
  1. Who Seeks Asylum?

    • Asylum seekers are individuals who, for reasons beyond their control, are being persecuted in their home country for their religion, race, gender, political opinion or ethnic identification. In some European states, admitted asylum applicants receive public assistance, such as housing benefits, food stipends, health benefits and job training, if needed. Whether or not a state provides public support to a refugee is referred to as "reception of applicants." The reception may be nil or generous depending on the policies of that state.

    Reception of Job Applicants

    • Reception of applicants is conducted by the human resources department at most firms. As part of the reception process, the human resources department introduces applicants to the company facilities, benefits, employee policies and workplace culture. The reception of applicants allows applicants the opportunity to decide whether the company is a good fit for them as well.

Reception of College or University Applicants

    • Some university or college programs may host a formal reception to welcome recently admitted students. The event usually is given to provide some formal introduction to the college or university program, specifically giving students the opportunity to meet each other and faculty prior to the start of the program.

    Reception of Scholarship Applicants

    • Some scholarship programs may host a reception of the award recipients. The reception may introduce recipients to past winners as well as provide guidance on what is expected of applicant recipients, especially where the scholarship can be rescinded over poor grades or uncondonable behavior.
