How to Determine the Exact Location of a Latitude

You can determine an exact location based on its latitude and longitude. Latitude is basically the angular distance of an exact location either north or south of the Earth's Equator. Longitude, on the other hand, is basically the angular distance of an exact location either east of west of the Earth's Equator. Both latitude and longitude are measured in degrees, minutes and seconds. If all the information you have is the latitude, then you need to find out the coordinating longitude before you can find the exact location.

  Find out the corresponding longitude for the latitude you were given. If you can't find out the longitude, then you won't be able to determine the exact location.

  Use an atlas or world map to find the exact location of the latitude and longitude. The lines of latitude are north and south of the Equator, while the lines of longitude are east and west of the Equator. The exact location is the point where the latitude and longitude meet. Using an atlas or world map works best if the latitude and longitude you have are whole numbers.

  Use an online resource, such as MapQuest.com, to find the exact location of a latitude and longitude that contain decimal points. Enter the latitude and longitude into the online resource. Click "Get Map" to see the exact address.
