Basement HVAC Installation

A home or building's heating, ventilation and air conditioning system is referred to as the HVAC system. Most of an HVAC system's critical components are installed in the basement to increase efficiency.
  1. Function

    • An HVAC system is employed to control airflow and the general climate throughout a home or building. There are a number of different types of HVAC systems. Older homes and buildings may feature a boiler system to control climate while newer homes and buildings typically employ forced heat furnace systems.

    Features

    • HVAC systems traditionally consist of a combination of a furnace, boiler or other type of air conditioning unit and a series of duct work or pipes. Some rooms may feature floor-mounted air return vents to draw colder air down. Perhaps one of the most important components to any HVAC system is the thermostat, where consumers can control the system.

    Installation Regulations

    • A number of regulations are in place which must be followed before installing an HVAC system in the basement. The ACCA, or Air Conditioning Contractors of America, designs the HVAC regulations. The organization offers several manuals which can help the consumer decide the size of HVAC system to install for the size of the home. All duct work must be constructed out of stainless steel.
