World History Education Sites

History can teach us about the triumphs and mistakes of the past and give insight into how not to repeat problems. There are a cavalcade of websites devoted to teaching people about world history. Each of these sites depicts different historical events in its own way, highlighting the important moments of humanity's past.
  1. WorldHistory.com

    • The WorldHistory.com website takes a unique approach. Instead of reading as a static document, each WorldHistory page is tied together by people and events that are somehow connected to the page you are viewing. One example of this is the WorldHistory page for the "American Revolutionary War," which has countless "sub-events," such as the Battle of Long Island, linked to it. This page also has people, such as George Washington and artifacts like the Declaration of Independence linked to it, making it a useful resource for world history education.

    HyperHistory

    • HyperHistory's website is different from some of the other history websites in that it is much more interactive than simply typing in a search term and seeing what comes up. You can select the subject you want, whether it be simple history or more narrow topics, such as specific events or people. Then, at the bottom of your browser window, you can select history tidbits based on politics, culture or religion. You're also given the option of looking at historical timelines that span different sections of world history.

    HistoryWorld

    • While many websites describe history using nationalities or time periods, HistoryWorld takes a more direct approach. By clicking the "Histories" tab on its home page, you have direct access to just about anything that mind come to mind. If you want the history of bridges up to the year 1800, you click "Bridges" on the list. In addition to encyclopedia-styled articles, HistoryWorld also includes a quiz you can take to test the knowledge you've picked up while browsing the website. The quiz questions refresh randomly each time you take it, too, so every quiz will test different bits of knowledge.

    InfoPlease

    • InfoPlease is a general information website, but it includes a large section on history and government, with world history split into different groups. What is interesting about InfoPlease is that you can learn about world history that pertains to particular events or places. For instance, you can learn a lot about the history of the United States by selecting "United States" from the sidebar and reading through some of those articles.
