In learning any subject, it is imperative to ask questions as often as possible. Don't get embarrassed. If you are in school, ask your teacher. If you are studying math outside of school, find a friend or relative who is good at math to help you.

Approach math as a set of steps. In order to multiply, most people will learn to add and subract first. This is also true with albegra and more complex theories. If you find a mathematical exercise too difficult to solve, you may need to go back a couple of stages to learn the basics.

    • 3

A good way to focus on and study math is to use real examples. Imagine short stories in which a math problem can play out. Math prepares you for life. Anyone wanting to become a banker, shopkeeper, trader or accountant will need to become proficient in math.

Practice. In math, practice makes perfect. Much like playing the piano, if you take a break from playing you will get rusty. The same goes for math. Regularly solving math problems can help keep a sharp calculative mind.

    • 5

Learn tricks. Students learn simple arithmetic at school the long way. Once you learn it, you can shorten your calculating speed. One way to do this is to learn quick tricks. For example, multiplying anything by five is easier to do in your head if you first multiply by 10 and then divide by two.

Stay calm. One cause of people finding math difficult to learn is when they panic. This panic can cloud your ability to focus on the mathematical problem at hand and make things seem harder than they really are.
