Cycling is an excellent cardiovascular exercise. It is not available to everyone because bicycles are expensive, but it is much healthier on the joints than running, which can cause damage through repeated impact. It is important to track distances when cycling to use as a benchmark for progress. Also use a stopwatch to measure time. With time and distance, you can calculate the average speed. You don't need to spend money on a GPS device to work out how far you ride.
