Because the world is becoming more technologically advanced and every day technology usage is common amongst adults, use technology to reach students and increase learning. You might try social or video websites to relay information and make it more understandable to adult students. Try giving assignments that incorporate these tools as well. Be sure to allow class time for students who may not have access to technological tools.
Focus on real life objects and real life problems. Have students use objects and experiences from their surroundings to help them learn material. For instance, if you are teaching a unit on Mexico, ask students to bring in objects, foods or other materials from a personal visit. Relate instruction to real life by having them solve real mathematical problems such as creating a budget to develop increased math skills.
Adults, like children, may learn better through task-oriented activities such as games that teach them how to perform in real-life circumstances. For instance, they might set up a business by first making a plan, choosing a venue and location and then implementing activities that simulate their business. Incorporate as many projects as possible into the classroom environment that involve completing a task to increase student learning.
