Invite a small number of students down to the court to engage in an air guitar competition. A popular rock song is played over the speakers and students must air guitar, trying to top the other contestants with their moves and theatrics. The winner is determined by audience response for each contestant. The winner wins a prize or simply the honor of air guitar champion for that week’s game.
Select a student to attempt a tricky basketball shot, such as a half-court shot or making a certain number of baskets in a short time. This can also be a competition, where two or more players battle it out to make tricky baskets. To make the game go longer, give the student multiple tries to make the tricky shot, such as three tries. This builds the suspense too, as the student’s chances start running out. Adding a prize, such as $100, increases the suspense even further.
Make a simple obstacle course on the court using traffic cones and other objects. Pick two or three students to play. The students race each other to see who can complete the obstacle course first. This game seems easy, but there’s one catch: they have to place a baseball bat upright on the ground, place their forehead on the end and spin around multiple times before beginning the race. This provides entertainment for the fans in the stands as the players stumble around the obstacle course, dizzy from spinning around.
Cheerleaders help entertain the crowd during the game, getting cheers going and building excitement. In this activity, it’s the regular students’ turn. Bring five students, who seem loaded with school spirit, down to the court and give them 30 seconds to show off who has the most school spirit. Like the air guitar competition, these students battle it out to show who has the most moves, getting creative to outdo each other. It also keeps the fans in the stands excited for the start of the second half of the game.
