How many years of school do internist go to for?

To become an internist, doctors complete a minimum of 12 years of schooling after high school:

* 4 years: Bachelor's degree (pre-med)

* 4 years: Medical school (MD or DO)

* 3 years: Residency in Internal Medicine

Some internists may choose to pursue further sub-specialization, adding more years of fellowship training.
