Take a placement test. Even for one class, admission to Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College requires all prospective students to take an admissions placement test. Contact Assessment Services to find out how to schedule your exam. Some prospective examinees may be accommodated during walk-in hours, if there is enough space, but the preferred method is to schedule a placement test by appointment. Do not bring children with you to take the exam. Bring a photo ID, such as a driver's license, and expect to spend between 90 minutes and two hours. You must also bring a receipt to show that you have paid for classes in full and an appointment approval to take the placement test. An appointment approval is simply a note stating that your appointment has been approved and you are eligible to take the placement test. There is no fee to take the placement test. Subjects on the placement test include writing, reading and math. There is a link to sample questions on the test on the General Information page of the Admissions Testing page.
Complete an application for admission online. Submit your SAT or ACT scores. If you took either test in high school, the scores will be listed on your high school transcript. If you don't have SAT or ACT scores, contact an admissions counselor to make an appointment to take the COMPASS or ASSET course placement exam.
Request an official copy of your high school transcript and have your high school mail your transcripts directly to Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College. If you have taken college courses elsewhere, you will need to request official copies of transcripts from each school at which you have successfully completed courses. Be prepared to pay a fee for each transcript requested. The fee varies by college.
Apply for financial aid using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online. This will determine your eligibility for financial assistance in paying for your classes. You may also be eligible for state aid for part-time students (if enrolled in fewer than 12 credit hours), loans and work study. You may also be eligible for scholarships or veterans' benefits. Contact the financial aid office to determine how you should go about applying for scholarships awarded by the school as well as veterans' benefits. If you have not attended Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College within the last two terms, or if you have graduated from the college, you must complete a new application for admission.
