Computer Repair Technician Schools

Computer technicians take computer or servers that are not working and diagnose, fix and maintain these devices. Technicians are responsible for dealing with hardware and software issues as well as assisting in setting up and/or maintaining computer networks and peripherals. Computer repair programs provide students with the skills needed to diagnose and fix computers, servers, hardware and software and students are often required to do hands-on work at client sites.

This 37-credit program includes both classroom and lab work. Course work includes diagnosing, analyzing and repairing computer issues; learning how to assist customers; fixing networked computers, servers and other paraphernalia; replacing computer peripherals and hardware; repairing other equipment, including scanners, printers, monitors and scanners; and learning how to read and explain computer manuals.

    • Spencerian College offers a Computer Repair Diploma at its Lexington, Kentucky campus. The goal of this program is to teach students the basics of computers, how to analyze issues and how to fix personal computers and hardware. Course work includes the principles of electricity (A/C and D/C); analyzing and repairing computer mother boards, electronic circuitry and other components; learning how to test equipment and learning about digital circuitry and microcomputer repairs. This program trains students to be personal computer (PC) repair technicians, electronics repair technicians, field service technicians and electronic bench technicians.

    • Ashworth College offers a PC Service and Repair Career Diploma and prepares students to take the A+ Certification Exam in order to become a computer repair technician. The A+ Certification Exam measures the competency of entry-level computer repair technicians. Course work reviews computer hardware like components, chips, memory, motherboard circuitry, hard drives, floppy drives and power supply. Students will also learn about peripherals like printers, modems, keyboards, CD-ROM drives and monitors. This is an online program and includes 12 lessons. Each lesson contains a preview of the lesson, its objectives, overview by the instructor and a review of necessary vocabulary to learn the coursework. The price of the course includes all textbooks, study guides, PC repair tools and online support. Each lesson ends with an open-book exam.
