An invigilator is to be at the site of the exam, in his proper uniform (typically an academic's gown), at least 15 minutes before the exam begins. The invigilators are responsible for making sure the examination hall is properly climate controlled, there are a minimum of distracting noises and the environment is conducive to running the exam. Invigilators will also ensure the exam packets are distributed to desks prior to the start of the exam.
The invigilators take an attendance roster and inform students when they may unseal their examination packets and when they may begin writing. An invigilator will be responsible for telling the students when the examination period is over. Each exam will have at least two invigilators. One (typically the senior one) sits in the front of the examination hall. The other sits in the back. During the examination, the invigilator may not read other materials, leave the examination hall or do anything that might compromise their observation of the examination and the students taking it.
Any student irregularities that were observed during the examination are to be reported to the teacher of the subject, and all examination materials must be recovered, accounted for and matched to the attendee log of the students present for the examination.
