Decide what it is you want to accomplish. This is the easy part. Sit down and write what it is you want.
Set a date. A goal without a date is a wish or a dream. In your log, put a date by which you want to accomplish your goal. Make it realistic so you don't become discouraged.
Determine how you are going to accomplish your goal. This is where planning comes in. Sit down and plan how you are going to reach your goal by your goal date. If you have a goal to lose 25 pounds by your wedding date, sit down and plan how many days or weeks you have. Your personal goal log is your action plan.
Make mini-goals. Goals are more manageable if they are bite-sized. Think of your goal as eating an elephant. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. Your mini-goals are your small elephant bites.
Review your log and make notes. The best goal log in the world is useless you don't review it often. Make it a habit to review your log regularly. How often you review your personal goal log is up to you. It may be daily, weekly or monthly. Make notes on what you've accomplished and how you feel about it.
Change direction when necessary. If you notice after a few weeks of reviewing your personal goal log that you are not headed in the right direction, make changes. The beauty of having a log is you can see where you made a wrong turn. Go back, correct your mistakes and continue on until you reach your goal.
