B.Sc. Physics Final Year Model Paper
Instructions:
- The question paper consists of three sections: A, B, and C.
- Answer all questions from each section.
- Each question carries 10 marks.
- The total marks for the paper are 100.
Section A: Mechanics and Properties of Matter
1. Derive the equation of motion for a particle moving under a central force and use it to obtain the expression for the energy of a planet in an elliptical orbit around the sun.
2. State and explain Pascal's law. Obtain the expression for the pressure at any point in a liquid at rest and use it to explain hydraulic lift.
3. Explain in detail the concept of simple harmonic motion (SHM). Derive the expression for the velocity and acceleration of a particle executing SHM.
Section B: Electromagnetism
1. Derive the equation for the magnetic field due to a long straight wire carrying a current. Explain the factors affecting the magnetic field strength and its direction.
2. State and explain Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction. Use the law to derive the expression for the induced emf in a coil when it is subjected to a changing magnetic flux.
3. Explain the concept of alternating current (AC). Derive the expression for the rms value and average value of an alternating current.
Section C: Modern Physics
1. Explain the basic postulates of quantum mechanics. Discuss the concept of wave-particle duality and the uncertainty principle.
2. Derive the Schrödinger's time-dependent wave equation and explain its significance in quantum mechanics.
3. Discuss the structure of the atom according to the nuclear model. Explain the concept of nuclear fission and nuclear fusion and mention their applications.
