Review the US News and World Report ranking of the nation's top business schools to narrow your list of choices. This site also provides details on the median grade point average (GPA) and Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) scores for admissions to all business schools in the report.
Request application packages from at least three schools that fit your selection criteria and intended career choice. Get information about their fellowships and other financial support for PhD candidates, too.
Complete applications for at least three schools that you think you are qualified for academically. If you don't have GMAT scores available at the time of application, use their GPA mean as your guide.
Register to take the GMAT. Have the scores sent to the schools you selected. Download free exam practice software at the MBA website and use online practice tests to gauge your proficiency in the actual test environment.
Order your transcripts as soon as you have selected schools. Contact your former professors and colleagues and ask them about letters of recommendations. Try to complete the admissions process before most universities break for the winter holidays.
Finish the required management degree courses in two-three years. Conduct research, prepare and defend your dissertation. Courses and other requirements at most PhD programs require at least five years.
