ASU offers six different tests in the field of business including Introductory Business Law, Principles of Accounting, Principles of Macroeconomics, Principles of Microeconomics, Principles of Management and Principles of Marketing. Students receive no credit for passing the Principles of Management or Marketing CLEP tests, although passing the test meets the prerequisite requirements for more advanced classes.
Students can take the CLEP Analyzing and Interpreting Literature, College Composition and English Literature tests. College Composition fulfills the 3-credit English 101 requirement and the other CLEP tests for English fulfill 3-credit elective credit requirements.
ASU permits students to test out of first and second year courses in French, German and Spanish. CLEP scores fall between 20 and 80 and students need to score above 50 to receive credit for French or Spanish 101, above 55 for French of Spanish 102 and above 62 for French or Spanish 201. Students must receive a score of 60 or higher to receive credit for French or Spanish 201 and over 66 for French 202 and a 68 for Spanish 202. The scores for German run from 39 for German 101, 46 for German 102, 51 for German 201 and 60 for German 202.
The math courses students can receive CLEP credit for include precalculus, calculus, college algebra and college mathematics. The Precalculus exam replaces taking a test for college algebra and trigonometry. The Calculus test replaces Math 265 for 3 credits and the College Algebra exam replaces Math 270, a 4-credit course. The College Mathematics exam replaces Math 142, a course designed for students who major in non-technical fields.
Passing the CLEP Biology, Chemistry or Natural Sciences tests provides students with 8 credits in the Biology 181 or 182, Chemistry 113 and 116 or provides students passing the Natural Sciences test with 8 elective credits.
Students who pass the American Government CLEP test receive 3 elective credits. The history exams include History of the United States I and II along with Western Civilization I and II. Passing each of these exams rewards students with 3 credits in the course equivalents offered at ASU, which include History 109, 110, 102 or 103 and History 104.
Students can take CLEP tests for introductory classes in psychology, sociology and educational psychology, although passing the Educational Psychology test carries no credit, while the Introductory Psychology and Introductory Sociology tests give students 3 credits. Human Growth and Development carries 3 credits and passing the Social Sciences and History exam provides students with 6 elective credits.
