How to Personalize My Stole of Gratitude

New traditions sometimes pop up in tradition-laden ceremonies, such as graduation. One newer tradition is the Stole of Gratitude. This sash is worn by college students during their graduation ceremony and is then given to a special person after the ceremony to show gratitude. Most of the time the stole is given to a parent, teacher, church leader, friend or other influential person in the student's life.

Write a few words on the back of the stole with a permanent black marker or a decorative gold- or silver-ink pen to show your appreciation for the person you are giving the stole to. Sign your name on it. Make sure that you give the reasons you appreciate the person and how she helped you achieve your goals.

Pay to have the stole embroidered. This creates a more professional and polished personalized look than the black marker. You can find someone to embroider your sash at a tailor shop, where clothing is hemmed or repaired, or at some dry cleaning outlets.

Embroider the stole yourself using a sewing machine with programmable embroidery settings. Follow the machine's instructions for programming the embroidery and sew a small thank you onto the back of the stole.
