High school grades:
Most nursing programs require students to have completed high school with a strong academic record. This typically includes a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher, with good grades in math and science courses, as well as English, biology, and chemistry. Some programs may also require applicants to have taken certain standardized tests, such as the SAT or ACT, and achieved a minimum score.
College or university grades:
Students who have already completed some college or university coursework may be required to transfer those grades into the nursing program. Again, a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher is often required, with strong grades in math, science, and any prerequisite courses for nursing.
Prereqisite coursework:
Most nursing programs require applicants to have completed certain prerequisite coursework before they can be admitted to the nursing program. These may include courses in anatomy, physiology, microbiology, nutrition, and psychology.
Clinical experience:
Many nursing programs also require applicants to have some clinical or healthcare experience prior to admission. This may include working in a hospital or other healthcare setting, or volunteering for a health-related organization.
