Indications for Ungiectomy
- Permanent deformities of the nails
- Ingrown nails
- Persistent fungal infection
- Injuries resulting in extensive damage to the nail
- Nail bed tumors
Procedure
- The surgeon may administer local anesthesia to numb the affected area.
- With the help of a scalpel or surgical scissors, the surgeon carefully trims or removes the affected nail.
- To prevent ingrown nails from recurring, the surgeon may additionally remove part of the nail bed.
- The area is cleaned and bandaged.
Post-Operative Care
- Keep the affected area clean and dry.
- Change the bandage regularly as directed by the surgeon.
- Take prescribed antibiotics or pain relievers as directed.
- Avoid strenuous activities that could put pressure on the affected toe or finger.
- Follow the surgeon's instructions regarding hygiene and wound care to prevent infection.
