Start the recruiting process before your senior year. This gives prospective coaches enough time to evaluate your game-play during your final year. It also gives coaches enough time to review your video and conduct interviews with you during your last year. Obtain video tape of games you have played in from your school. Alternatively, have a friend or family member film you playing in games.
Prepare videos of your best plays using a video software program such as Windows Movie Maker, Adobe Premier or AVS Video Editor. Keep copies of all original tapes and video files, as you may be required to make copies of full games, depending on each prospective coach's instructions.
Prepare a list of colleges that you are interested in attending. Contact each coach's athletic office to find out the processes for recruitment. For example, the coach may require you to prepare an official resume, transcript and several video tapes of your best games.
Ask your current high school coach to talk to prospective college coaches about your football and academic talents. Recruiters want players that can succeed on the field and in the classroom. (The NCAA requires athletes to maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA.) Give the coach tape (or digital video) of your highlights and full games to share with the prospective coaches.
Upload your videos to a video-sharing site, such as YouTube or DailyMotion, to make it easier for prospective coaches to view your plays. Create a profile on a recruiting site, such as "Recruit Me Now" or "Be Recruited." These recruiting sites allow you to upload video and post your stats for view by prospective coaches.
Send the final video to prospective coaches according to their instructions. Be prepared to mail the tape to them or deliver it to their offices directly. Follow the instructions that individual recruiters give to you, as procedures differ depending on the coach.
