The dress code at Morehouse College is designed to promote an environment that is conducive to learning and professionalism. Students are expected to dress in a manner that is appropriate for an academic setting and respectful of others.
Basic Expectations
- Clothing should be clean, pressed, and free of holes, tears, or stains.
- Students should wear shoes at all times.
- Hats, bandanas, and other head coverings are not permitted indoors, except for religious or medical reasons.
- Sunglasses may not be worn indoors.
Appropriate Attire
For classes and other academic activities, students are expected to wear appropriate attire that covers the body modestly. Some examples of appropriate attire include:
- Dress shirts and slacks
- Polo shirts and khakis
- Sweatshirts and sweatpants (during cold weather)
- Jeans (without holes or tears)
Prohibited Attire
The following items of clothing are prohibited:
- Tank tops
- T-shirts with offensive or inappropriate images or language
- Shorts that are shorter than fingertip length
- Leggings or yoga pants (unless worn under longer tops or dresses)
- Skirts or dresses that are shorter than fingertip length
- Flip-flops or sandals
Special Occasions
On certain occasions, such as formal events or class presentations, students may be required to dress in more formal attire. Specific guidelines for these occasions will be provided in advance.
Consequences for Dress Code Violations
Students who violate the dress code will be subject to disciplinary action, including warnings, fines, or even suspension from the College.
Dress Code Policy Review
The Dress Code Policy is reviewed annually by the Student Government Association (SGA) and is subject to change. Any changes to the policy will be communicated to students in advance.
