The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey offers a four-year bachelor of arts in criminal justice with a concentration in forensic investigation. It provides students with an overview of the various characteristics of the legal system while focusing intricately on the aspects of crime scene investigation and analysis. The college offers a dual-degree program, combining the bachelor of arts degree with a master of arts in criminal justice. Throughout this program, students will have the opportunity to learn about the analytical skills and techniques involved in the criminal investigation field, the collection of evidence from firearms, casting and imprinting of hard and soft surfaces as well as examining ammunition and discharge residue. Students of the criminal justice degree are encouraged to participate in the Criminal Justice Internship Program offered in collaboration with a number of justice organizations.

Students enrolled in the bachelor of science with a major in criminal justice at Jacksonville State University may elect to undergo a concentration in forensic investigations. This concentration allows students to focus their interest with a ballistics career goals in mind. Courses will provide students with a thorough understanding of the casting and molding process involved in processing firearms evidence. Students will learn the necessary components of the field, from analytical skills to evidence processing techniques and will have the opportunity to select a topic of their choosing to explore in detail.

Illinois Central College offers an applied science degree in crime scene technology as well as a certificate program for individuals who have an undergraduate degree. Both programs are designed to prepare students for a career in crime scene technology and investigation. The fall, winter and spring semesters are comprised of in-class learning where students will perfect the technical skills necessary for this field. Students will have the opportunity to pursue individualized study topics to specialize their knowledge in forensic firearms skills and techniques. The summer semester offers students an engaging experience in practical education at the Criminal Justice Summer Institute. Graduates of these program are eligible for membership with the International Association for Identification.
