Chemical Engineering Courses in Malaysia

Malaysia draws international students due to the availability of high-quality English-language programs. Its Ministry of Higher Education states that Malaysia experienced a marked increase in overseas students--from 70,259 in 2008 to 80,750 in 2009--most of whom study in private colleges or local campuses of foreign universities. Malaysia's undergraduate chemical engineering programs feature high levels of research and development and typically require a high school diploma for admission.
  1. Taylor's University College

    • Taylor's offers a central location in the bustling student suburb of Subang Jaya, 29 miles from the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur. The Bachelor of Engineering (Honors) in Chemical Engineering unfolds as a "twinning" program, taking four years in total, allowing students to study for two years at Taylor's and the last two years in one of the college's partners in the United Kingdom or Australia. The program provides a well-rounded general education in chemical engineering, covering engineering mathematics, dynamics, fluid mechanics, molecular biotechnology, reaction systems, petroleum and gas engineering and industry practicums. Tuition costs approximately 106,260 Malaysian ringgit (US$33,228) to complete all four years in Malaysia.

    Monash University Malaysia

    • The Sunway campus of Monash University opened in 1998. Students of its four-year Bachelor of Engineering degree must take general engineering courses in their first year before choosing to specialize in chemical engineering in their second year. Students can complete the whole degree in Malaysia, or transfer to the university's Clayton campus in Victoria, Australia. Tuition costs approximately 37,000 ringgit per year (US$11,600). Students benefit from the required industry training component: To fulfill the requirements of the Institution of Engineers Australia and the Institution of Engineers Malaysia, engineering students must complete 12 weeks of work experience to graduate.

    University of Nottingham Malaysia

    • The Semenyih campus of the University of Nottingham specializes in chemical engineering, offering both undergraduate and graduate programs. Undergraduate studies last three years. Students can complete their entire degree in Malaysia, attend the university's UK campus for up to two semesters or transfer to the UK after the first year to complete the final two years. Candidates pursuing the bachelor's degree in engineering can choose to solely specialize in chemical engineering or combine it with environmental engineering. The master's degree in chemical engineering offers a 12-month program of lectures, projects and exams, culminating in an individual research project in the last four months. Tuition fees come to approximately 37,000 ringgit per year for undergraduate courses or for a master's degree.
