Careers in business require original thought (marketing), critical analysis (evaluating profitability), and good communication skills (consumer service). The Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies, while not specializing in any of these specific areas, offers training in all of them.
The generic training in multiple fields also prepares the holder of a B.A. in Liberal Studies for many of the challenges of a teaching career, particularly at the primary levels (secondary school teachers may need more discipline-specific expertise to handle the more intensive curriculum).
The rapidly changing nature of contemporary society, both in the private and in the public sector, requires employees that are flexible and interdisciplinary. In some cases, an over-specialized education makes an employee less suitable for a job that has a wide variety of tasks, such as an hotel manager or a customer service representative. The B.A. in Liberal Studies is often the best possible preparation for careers of this nature.
