Get an idea of how much your students already know. Introducing a concept with a quiz allows you to assess what your students know and what they don't, which helps you understand how to form your lessons.
Provide the underlying basic nursing concept. For instance, if you are learning about giving vaccines, begin by informing students about what a vaccine is, how they are used and how they are effective. This underlying information lets students know the significance of what they will be doing.
Ask students to read their textbooks, relevant articles or related books. Reading will reiterate and reinforce the concepts you've approached in class, provide more examples and give students a broader view of the nursing concepts they are learning.
Use diagrams and pictures to supplement your class lectures and discussions. Visual aids help students understand some of the concepts of nursing better than simply talking about them. Videos can also help.
Provide case studies for students to read and discuss. Case studies enable students to draw upon the material they are learning in class, think critically and formulate their own ideas and treatment plans.
Give students an opportunity to do practical learning. Role-playing or actually carrying out the techniques they are learning can be the best way to really understand how it is done.
