Types of Nursing Concepts

Nurses are trained medical practitioners who take on the responsibility of caring for patients' medical, physical, emotional and mental needs. Nurses are trained to be medically proficient and to provide a certain level of counseling and therapy in some instances. There are four types of nursing concepts, each of which captures the qualifications and responsibilities of nursing professionals.
  1. Nursing Processes

    • The first type of nursing concept is the processes of nursing. Nurses must understand and embrace the concepts of leadership and decision-making in order to do their jobs. Besides being able to handle high stress situations that require such leadership skills, they must also understand the processes of team work to retain healthy relationships with coworkers and patients alike. Finally, the processes of physical care and medical research prepare nurses for the technicalities of their profession.

    Nursing Approaches

    • There are several approaches to nursing, though all are not necessarily utilized by all nurses everywhere. The concepts include partnership and service. As part of a medical team, nurses must be able to work closely alongside other professionals for the benefit of patients and families. They must also be able to serve others selflessly and without pause or hesitation.

    Nursing Roles

    • Although a nurse is trained to take charge of the care of patients, they must also understand the concepts and roles that come alongside their primary responsibility. Besides being medical practitioners and professionals, nurses have the capacity to be instructors, researchers and managers. They are able to utilize their skills to lead and to consult others as well. These functions are not necessarily clearly described in official job requirements but are still included among the types of nursing concepts.

    Nursing Responsibilities

    • Nursing concepts also include certain responsibilities that nurses embrace professionally. The concepts of organization and peer support are at the base of nursing criteria. Nurses are also aware of legal, political and ethical constraints and requirements necessary to operate in a professional capacity. The concept of professionalism is among the most important type of nursing concept.
