How to Write Emotional Copy

Writing is a special art form in which you can captivate your reader with a simple turn of phrase. A writer who knows how to use words can conjure up a plethora of emotions with just a few sentences. Emotional copy tugs at the heartstrings because it is easy to relate to. The trick to writing such a paper is to write what you know and know how to keep your personal message clear and concise.

Instructions

    • 1

Personalize your paper. The best emotional copy has personal elements to it. If it is about a personal situation that you went through, write down the emotions you felt when you were going through it. If you are writing about someone else's personal story, then ask detailed questions to gauge how that person dealt with the situation. Brainstorm to connect similar details to each other.

Give details to paint a picture. Be thorough in your descriptions because they combine to make the backdrop for the emotional story. Use colors to create a mood for your paper. Different colors automatically conjure up certain emotions. For example, red is usually associated with anger, while blue can bring up sad or melancholy feelings. Sounds like a cricket chirping or wind blowing through the trees can also bring your words to life, and these examples also create anticipation. Clever metaphors are also useful in bringing your descriptions to life.

    • 3

Use quotations in your story. Quotations are important because they give the story a voice. If you are writing about someone else's personal story, take a tape recorder to the interview to make sure you document the person's exact quotes. You can still add quotations if the story is your own personal one. Try to remember what was said and put it in quotes. If you are unsure, ask someone else who was with you to help validate the quotes.

Write a strong conclusion. A conclusion should successfully sum up the entire paper and should also leave the reader feeling satisfied. Drive home your point with clear examples and creative language. Refer to the introduction to help make the paper complete.

    • 5

Reread your draft copy to pick up on any grammatical or spelling errors. Check for typos and also for places where clarity is an issue. Mark up the mistakes on the draft copy and rewrite as needed.
