Research federal student loans. Unless you are a non-traditional student, you are limited to federal based loans, with Stafford loans and Perkins loans being the most common. Neither of these require a credit-check.
Fill out your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is an integral component in securing government loans. Your FAFSA will put you on track not only to receive loans, it will also help you secure grant money if applicable.
Apply for the Stafford loan. A Subsidized Stafford loan is for needy students, so if you have low-income and no credit nor cosigner, you will likely succeed in getting this loan. While the amount awarded in a Stafford Loan is small, it is a starting point in financing your education.
Apply for a Perkins loan, which is usually designated for students who show the greatest financial need. The Perkins loan has a 5% interest rate and longer payback terms than the Stafford loan.
Non-traditional students have more options available to then. While they still only qualify for Stafford loans and Perkins loans, there are many scholarships and grants available for students returning to college to pursue degrees. Check your school's website for more information on these.
