Who created the first English encyclopedia?

The first English encyclopedia is generally considered to be "Cyclopaedia; or, An Universal Dictionary of Arts and Sciences", written by Ephraim Chambers and published in 1728.

While there were earlier encyclopedic works in English, Chambers' "Cyclopaedia" was the first to be truly comprehensive, covering a wide range of subjects and presenting them in a systematic and organized manner.

It was a groundbreaking work that set the standard for future encyclopedias and contributed significantly to the development of knowledge dissemination in the 18th century.
