How was Thoreau similar to Emerson as in the play The Night Spent Jail?

Henry David Thoreau was a transcendentalist and a close friend of Ralph Waldo Emerson. Thoreau was not in the audience for the play The Night Spent In Jail, but he did write about the play in his journal.
