A curriculum which emphasizes broad coverage while at the same time offering specialization within several major disciplines. Under this design students select from the entire offerings of the college instead of specializing in an interest area to the same extant required in narrow curriculum plans as a freshman student.
For example, under some broad field designs first or freshman, year programs contain some work from almost every area of knowledge. In broad field curriculum students concentrate in an interest after completing more than a year's study without any concentration.
